Every Knee Shall Bow to Jesus

This is Day 25 of my 40 day Lenten Blog.

"Therefore, God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

This is one of my favorite verses. I love it so much because it describes the moment that I desperately long for--that moment when Jesus returns and everyone realizes it. Just imagine a return so glorious that even the enemies of Christ will fall to their knees before His majesty and confess that He is Lord!

But there is a frightening side to this as well. While right now I feel pretty good about Christ returning, there are days when that's not true. There are days when He would catch me asleep behind the wheel. Am I the faithful and wise servant whom the master will find feeding his household or am I the wicked servant whom the master returns to find beating the other servants. If I'm honest, I'd have to say I do both. And that could be a big problem.

If I am being a faithful servant when Jesus returns, I will drop to my knees out of pure delight and adoration. But if I am being a wicked servant when He returns then I will fall to my knees in fear and terror for my soul. Because Jesus tells us that the wicked servant will be cut to pieces and cast out into the darkness with the unbelievers where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 24:51). I don't want that to happen to me. I desperately want to live in His holy presence forever! This is why Jesus tells us to always be vigilant. But I confess that sometimes I am not.

Today's prayer:

Lord, I know that sometimes I am wicked when You want me to be faithful. Have mercy on me, forgive me my wickedness and disobedience. Forgive my evil ways. Help me to turn from them to the light that is Your perfect glory--to rest at Your feet forever and ever. Amen.
