What is Attractive About Christ?

This is Day 10 of my 40 day Lenten Blog.

On Thursday I attended my men's group at church--a program known as That Man Is You (TMIY). One of the questions was: "What is attractive about Christ?" Jesus attracted hundreds or thousands of followers during His life on Earth. But what is it about Him that is attractive to me?

For me it is the fact that God put Himself forward as the example. He doesn't just make rules that are difficult for humans to follow while sitting on a throne in Heaven demanding that we do. He came down here among us and followed those rules and faced the same temptations that I face every day.

When God became man He humbled Himself lower than He ever expects me to humble myself. He suffered more than He expects most people to suffer. He wept real tears for His friends. He sacrificed everything. He battled demonic forces. He was obedient. He served. He bled. He died. He descended into Hell (the realm of the dead). And He wants to be our friend.

Christ showed us a real, not just philosophical, face of a compassionate God. He demonstrated that He would do anything, even suffer the most horrific and humiliating death imagined by a tyrannical army, in order to save us from ourselves.

I don't know how I made it through this life so long without Jesus, because now I can't imagine life without Him.
